The work is being led by staff at the Institute for Volunteering Research and Student Hubs.

Dr Georgina Brewis (Co-Chair)
is Senior Research Officer at the Institute for Volunteering Research and Publicity Secretary of the Voluntary Action History Society. She completed her PhD at the University of East London in 2009. Her thesis explores how patterns of voluntary service were shaped in metropolitan Britain and colonial India by the imperial experience, with a focus on young people’s volunteering and its role in formal and informal education before 1914. She has published articles based on the thesis in History of Education and Modern Asian Studies. At IVR Georgina is currently undertaking research for clients including v, NCCPE and Skills Third Sector.

Adam O’Boyle (Co-Chair) has just completed a degree in Modern History and Economics from St John’s College, Oxford and is currently the Executive Director of Student Hubs, a charity working to promote and support student involvement in volunteering and charitable activities. He has also worked as a part-time analyst for New Philanthropy Capital where he co-authored a research report entitled: ‘Critical masses: Social campaigning, a guide for donors and funders’. Adam is a member of the NCVO 20:20 group and a trustee of (Oxford) Students Supporting Street Kids. He supports the Workers in Student Community Volunteering Committee with their website.
